NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Led by a balanced offensive attack, Randolph-Macon defeated #8 Christopher Newport 11-8 Wednesday afternoon in Newport News.
Sid Harvey picked up his first win of the year for the Yellow Jackets, tossing two scoreless innings while striking out two. Will Jennings closed the door, striking out three in one and a third innings to earn his first collegiate save.
R-MC started hot, scoring three runs in the third and fourth innings. Daniel Byrd gave the Jackets a solid start on the mound, hurling three innings of one run ball.
CNU (5-1) rallied to tie it up 7-7 entering the eighth. The Yellow Jackets then scored three in the inning, taking control of the game.
Billy Steel led the Captains offensively, posting two hits while driving in three. Matt Verdillo took the loss for CNU.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Catholic University for a 12:00 p.m. start.
