NORFOLK, Va. - The Randolph-Macon IHSA team ended the fall season on a high note at ODU this past Saturday.  Julia Bain, ’20 of Nokesville, VA book-ended her season with a tie for High Point Rider (Bain was High Point Rider at the first show of the season as well).  The team was ranked third overall for the day and holds that spot in the Region for the season thus far, close on the heels of Liberty University and the University of Mary Washington.

Strong showings from many of the freshman on the team contributed to the outstanding day.  Cindy Johns of Alexandria, VA won her Beginning W/T/C class and has now pointed up to the Advanced division in her very first season with the YJs.  A win on the flat from Eliza van der Woude of Warrenton and a third place finish for Shelby Powers of Fredericksburg at her very first show added to the day’s end total.

Veteran YJs also contributed to our strong finish including rides from Emily Ploppert, 19 of New Kent, VA, Emily Digney, ’18 of Barboursville and team captain Savannnah Smith, ’18 of King William.

“The promise that this team is showing is incredibly exciting,” stated team Director Dana Lesesne. “They are working hard to finesse their skills and we are seeing the results on competition days.”

The team will continue to train for the remaining three shows during the spring semester; Regional and Zone championships will take place in February.
