Pedro Arruza, R-MC head football coach, discusses what makes a Yellow Jacket successful both on and off the field. R-MC's challenging curriculum, and equally rigorous football program, shape students into leaders who know the value of hard work and commitment.
Arruza completed his 13th season with the Yellow Jackets in 2016. He has accrued 74 victories, the second-highest total in program history. He trails only Ted Keller, who posted 105 wins in 18 seasons (1964-81).
The Yellow Jackets enjoyed one of their most successful seasons this past fall. R-MC posted a regular-season record of 9-1, matching the program record for victories in a season. The Yellow Jackets went 6-1 in league play and claimed their 10th ODAC title, the second-highest total in the 40-year history of the ODAC. Arruza was named ODAC Coach of the Year.
Over the past 10 years, R-MC has experienced a level of success not seen by the program since the 1960's. R-MC is in the midst of the winningest decade of Randolph-Macon football, including a school-record seven consecutive winning seasons. The Yellow Jackets have had eight winning seasons over the past 10 years. R-MC is 67-35 over the past 10 campaigns, a winning percentage of 66%.
The Yellow Jackets were 7-3 in 2012 and 2013 after an 8-2 campaign in 2011. R-MC has defeated Hampden-Sydney in five of the past six years.
