ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Olivia Newman (Orange, Va./Orange County) scored her first goal of the season as the Randolph-Macon field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to Johns Hopkins Friday evening at Day Field.
Newman started the scoring with a goal in the 11th minute on a penalty corner from senior Rachael Gardner (Rapidan, Va./Orange County) to give the Yellow Jackets (0-2) a 1-0 advantage.
The Blue Jays (2-1) converted a penalty corner in the 12th minute to tie the score and took a 2-1 lead on a goal in the 27th minute.
JHU tallied the final goal in the 52nd minute to make the final 3-1.
Newman led the Yellow Jackets with five shots, including two on goal. Senior Carrie Jacobs (Orange, Va./Orange County) had four shots, half of which were on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va.) came off the bench to record six saves and allow just one goal in more than 41 minutes of action.
R-MC hits the road for the first time this season to play at Christopher Newport on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6:00 p.m.
