McMurray Records 11 Saves at R-MC Falls to St. Mary's

ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Shannon McMurray (Stafford, Va.) registered 11 saves as the Randolph-Macon field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to St. Mary's on Tuesday afternoon.

McMurray has eight saves in the first period and three in the second half.

The Seahawks (5-3) nailed a goal in the third minute to take an early 1-0 lead.

Senior Carrie Jacobs (Orange, Va./Orange County) tallied the equalizer in the 25th minute on an assist by senior Olivia Newman (Orange, Va./Orange County) to make it 1-1 at the half.

St. Mary's notched the go-ahead goal off a penalty corner in the 38th minute and made it stand up for a 2-1 victory.

The Yellow Jackets (0-6) outshot the Seahawks 22-20. Jacobs and Newman each recorded five shots, including three on goal.

R-MC hits the road for a non-conference contest at Wilson on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m.
