Jacobs Shines on Senior Day for R-MC

ASHLAND, Va.—Senior Carrie Jacobs (Orange, Va. / Orange County) sealed the win for the Yellow Jackets on Senior Day with a goal in the 45th minute as the Randolph-Macon field hockey team defeated Washington and Lee 3-2 Saturday in ODAC action.

The Yellow Jackets (6-10, 5-2 ODAC) scored early in the game with a goal in the second minute by Jacobs with the assist from senior Catherine Pricone (Arlington, Va. / Washington-Lee). The Generals (9-7, 3-4 ODAC) tied the game at 1-1 in the 10th minute.

 A foul by Washington and Lee in the 42nd minute allowed senior Olivia Newman (Orange, Va. /Orange County) to score off the penalty corner pass from senior Rachael Gardner (Rapidan, Va. /Orange County) to bring the score to 2-1.

Pricone found Jacobs less than three minutes later to give R-MC a 3-1 advantage. The Generals scored in the 47th minute to cut the Yellow Jacket's lead to one.

The Generals were thwarted in their efforts to tie the score late in the game by freshman Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va.), who recorded nine saves, and junior Shannon McMurray (Stafford, Va.), who tallied three saves including blocking a penalty stroke in the 54th minute.

Randolph-Macon will complete its regular season at Bridgewater on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m.
