BETHANY, W.Va. – Sophomore Haley McMahon (Fredericksburg, VA / Riverbend) tallied three goals and one assist as the Randolph-Macon field hockey team shutout Cedar Crest 10-0 Saturday afternoon at Bethany College.
R-MC tallied five goals in each period. The Yellow Jackets (1-1) scored three times in the first ten minutes. McMahon passed to senior Mackenzie Turner (Virginia Beach, VA / Tallwood) who delivered in the 4th minute. Less than two minutes later, McMahon scored off a pass from junior Kaitee Nicholas (Virginia Beach, VA / Tallwood). In the 7th minute, Turner found Victoria Cappadora (Manchester, MD / Manchester Valley) to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 advantage. McMahon scored a pair of goals in the 22nd and 24th minute to close out the first period.
R-MC held a 14-1 advantage in shots over the Falcons (0-3) in the first period.
In the second period, senior Renee Greenslade (Hamilton, Bermuda / St. Margaret's) found senior Kali Carroll (Earlysville, VA / Albemarle) for a goal in the 44th minute. Cappadora and Carroll notched their second goals of the game in the 53rd and 56th minute, respectively. Freshman Zoe Tallman (Chesapeake, VA / Western Branch) scored her first collegiate goal in the 58th minute off a pass from freshman Rachel Gist (Suffolk, VA / Kings Fork). Turner capped the victory for the Yellow Jackets with her second goal of the game in the 62nd minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, VA / Louisa County) registered four saves for R-MC.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on the road on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. against Bethany College.
