  • Five Yellow Jackets Earn Academic Honors From Field Hockey Coaches

    Five Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets were honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Thursday for their work in the classroom. The Zag Field Hockey / NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad encompasses student-athletes who have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.

  • Field Hockey Closes Season With Three Earning All-ODAC Honors

    Doubling their win total from 2016, the Randolph-Macon field hockey team recently completed its 2017 campaign with an overall record of 6-13 and 2-5 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. In head coach Jessica Weiss’s second season, the team made the ODAC Tournament for the first time since 2014 and saw a young team grow by leaps and bounds quickly under the guidance of the team’s three seniors. That guidance led to one of the seniors plus two freshmen earning All-ODAC honors, as voted on by the ODAC coaches and announced by the league office Tuesday.

Randolph-Macon got goals from senior Sara Sprinkel (Timonium, Md. / Dulaney) and freshman Maria Teresa Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va. / Trinity Episcopal School).

    Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va./Louisa Couny) will have the opportunity to play in a national senior game as announced by the coordinating organization Wednesday afternoon. Stanley is one of ten goalkeepers named to the 2017 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Senior Game roster. Stanley is the first Randolph-Macon player selected for the game since fellow keeper Nicole Woodworth was selected in 2012.
  • Cappadora Scores A Haul in Field Hockey’s Overtime Win

    Senior Victoria Cappadora (Manchester, Md. / Manchester Valley) scored the most goals of any Yellow Jacket in a single game since 2013 as her four goals led the Yellow Jackets to a 5-4 overtime victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday evening. Besides the four goals, Cappadora also took two additional shots that were saved, making every shot she tried in the match a shot on goal.

    The Randolph-Macon field hockey team will begin the 2017 campaign ranked seventh in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) preseason poll, as voted on by the league’s head coaches and released by the conference office. The team tallied a record of 3-14 overall last year while going 1-7 in conference play.
