Frostburg, Md. – Defense was the name of the game for Randolph-Macon as it took on Ohio Wesleyan University at Frostburg State University's tournament Saturday evening. But the sheer amount of shots taken by the Bishops (22) were too much for the Yellow Jackets to handle and R-MC fell 3-1.
Sophomore Katie Thompson (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) led the way for R-MC with a solid outing, saving eight of the 11 shots on goal taken against her. She faced 11 penalty corners as well.
OWU got on the board early in the first half and then minutes into the second half as well. Freshman Austyn Faries (Richmond, Va./Monacan) got R-MC on the board during the 48th minute when she scored her first goal of her Yellow Jacket career. Her second half goal went unassisted.
Faries was joined in shots taken by freshman Claire Magill (Mosely, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) and sophomore Jessica Cooke (Williamsburg, Va./Warhill), who each had one. Freshman Maria Teresa Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) shot twice. All five of R-MC's total shots were on goal, compared to just half of the OWU shots.
The Yellow Jackets will travel to Ferrum on Wednesday to face future Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Ferrum at 4:30 P.M.
