FOREST, Va. – The Randolph-Macon field hockey team will begin the 2017 campaign ranked seventh in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) preseason poll, as voted on by the league’s head coaches and released by the conference office. The team tallied a record of 3-14 overall last year while going 1-7 in conference play.
Washington and Lee University topped the poll followed by Lynchburg College and Shenandoah University.
Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley (Bumpass, Va./Louisa County) will return to the team this year. Stanley was tied for first with the most saves in the ODAC (165) and had the second best save percentage at .817. She also recorded two shutouts. The effort led to a first team All-ODAC selection.
Senior Victoria Cappadora (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) will also return to the team in 2017. She led the team in goals scored with six last year. Cappadora was also named to the Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad, along with returning goalkeeper Katie Thompson (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock).
Head Coach Jessica Weiss enters into her second year with the team after completing her Master of Education degree at Virginia Commonwealth University in the offseason.
The team opens the season with five games away and/or at neutral sites. The Yellow Jackets open up at home against Wilson on Tuesday, September 19 at 5:00 P.M.
