R-MC Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at VSGA Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Junior Matthew McDonagh (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) tied for 12th out of 70 individuals in helping the Randolph-Macon men's golf team take seventh place out of 14 teams at the VSGA Intercollegiate Championship Tuesday at the Williamsburg Golf Club.

McDonagh shot three-over 75 on Tuesday following a 77 on Monday for a two-round total of 152. He had two eagles and two birdies during his round.

The Yellow Jackets improved as a team by 10 strokes.

Junior Peter Shaner (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) tied for 21st at 155 (77-78) followed by freshman Alex Nelson (Weems, Va./Lancaster) at 159 (84-75) sophomore Chase Childers (Issue, Md./La Plata) at 164 (82-82) and junior Kirby Struhar (Sterling, Va./Park View) also at 164 (83-81). Nelson's nine-shot improvement was the best among the Top 50 scorers.

Randolph-Macon concludes the fall portion of its schedule on Oct. 24-25 at the Virginia State University Fall Classic at the Dogwood Trace Golf Course in Petersburg, Va.
