R-MC Men's Lax Wins Day Field Debut Over Catholic 15-11

ASHLAND, VA – Playing on the new Day Field and under the lights for the first time, the Randolph-Macon College Men's Lacrosse team opened up a new season and new chapter in its history with a 15-11 win over Catholic University on Wednesday.

R-MC (1-0) got three goals and three assists from Jason Andrews and four goals from Tim Rowe to secure the first win in its new home.  Nick Benhoff and Justin Butler each scored a pair of goals in the win as well.

Benhoff scored the first goal on the new field just 19 seconds into the game with an unassisted strike.

CUA (0-1) tallied three of the next four goals, taking a 3-2 advantage when Brendan Englert scored with 3:26 to go in the first period.

A Butler strike with just over a minute to go in the opening quarter tied the game at 3-3 and sparked what proved to be a 7-1 run by R-MC to close the half.  The run was capped by an Andrews goal with less than a minute to play before the intermission.

A Walter Hickey man-up goal at the 12:26 mark of the third quarter made it 9-5, before the Jackets would score four unanswered goals, taking a 13-5 lead on a Louie Bafford tally with less than four minutes to play in the third quarter.

CUA rallied, scoring the next four goals to make the score 13-9 with 11:34 to play in the game.

That would be as close as the Cardinals would get as back-to-back goals by Ryan Davidson and Benhoff pushed the R-MC lead to 15-9 with 8:40 to play.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on February 20th when it travels to Mary Washington for a 3:00 p.m. game.
