Andrews' 9 Goals Helps Lead R-MC to Final Home Victory

ASHLAND, Va. – The Yellow Jackets wrapped up their final home game with a 15-14 victory over Virginia Wesleyan this evening in ODAC men's lacrosse action under the lights at Day Field.

Jason Andrews (Hereford, MD / Hereford) led the R-MC offense netting nine goals and tallying two assists. Andrews picked up the second goal of the game (unassisted) followed by an unassisted goal by Justin Butler (Ocean City, MD / Worcester Prep) (2) for the second tie of the period. R-MC (8-7, 4-4) went on to post a total of six goals on 14 shots in the first period, outscoring VWC (9-5, 4-4) by two. Andrews would record two more goals alongside Butler and Ryan Davidson (Logan Township, NJ / Kingsway Regional). Assists were credited to Sam Mayer (Severna Park, MD / Severna), Nolan Clark (Annapolis, MD / St. Mary's), and Andrews.

The Marlins would not slow down in the second stanza, matching the Jackets goal-for-goal, only giving R-MC the 9-8 edge by intermission. During that phase, Andrews notched all three goals for the Yellow Jackets.

Clark (2) led the third period scoring four minutes in to give R-MC some insurance. A 10-10 knot would see a man-up goal by Nick Benhoff (Phoenix, MD / Dulaney) (unassisted) before the seventh Andrews goal resulted in the 12-10 lead.

R-MC was outscored in the final period but would prevail with the 15-14 victory in their final home match. The fourth period saw two goals from Andrews and one from Clark. Mayer and Benhoff were credited with the assists. Goalkeeper Brian Davies (Lynchbuurg, VA / E.C. Glass) improves to 8-7 overall with seven saves.

The Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team returns to action this Saturday April 26 as they travel to Bridgewater for a 1:00pm ODAC contest.
