Butler Records Game-high Five Goals as R-MC Drops 14-11 Quarterfinal Match
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The fifth seeded Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team netted eleven goals only to fall short by three this evening, as Hampden-Sydney took home the 14-11 decision in the quarterfinals of the 2014 ODAC Championship.
The Yellow Jackets (9-8, 5-4) played catchup for most of the first half being outscored 6-4 at intermission. Trailing 2-0 in the first stanza, Ryan Davidson (Logan Township, NJ / Kingsway Regional) recorded the Jackets' first goal (man-up, unassisted) to bring R-MC within one. The Tigers (9-7, 6-3) scored four times during the second period while Jason Andrews (Hereford, MD / Hereford) (man-up), Nick Benhoff (Phoenix, MD / Dulaney) (unassisted), and Joseph Edwards (Richmond, VA / Collegiate) (unassisted) pulled R-MC within two. Andrews' goal was assisted by Benhoff.
Justin Butler (Ocean City, MD / Worcester Prep) led the Jackets' offense in the third period, tallying four goals beside Kyle Snodderly (Reistertown, MD / Franklin). H-SC would net an additional seven goals to pull away with the 13-9 edge. Butler's third goal was assisted Sam Mayer (Severna Park, MD / Severna) who also had a hand in Snodderly's goal.
Butler and Edwards scored for R-MC in the fourth to outscore H-SC 2-1, ultimately falling 14-11 in the head-to-head contest.
Freshman goalkeeper Brian Davies (Lynchburg, VA / E.C. Glass) finished with a game-high eight saves.
