ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon men's soccer is preparing to welcome family, friends, alumni and fans to its 2017 Senior Night Festivities. Five seniors will be honored during the team's Tuesday night match.
After starting their careers 4-13 during their freshman season, the group has now been part of a program that has gone 31-16-3 since, including 22-6-3 in the last two seasons. The seniors set to be honored are Bryan Lutz (Fairfax, Va./W.T.Woodson), Jacob McHugh (Aberdeen, Md. / West Nottingham Academy), Peter Nelson (Charleston, WV / George Washington), Jake Tyler (Colonial Heights, VA / Colonial Heights) and manager/student assistant coach Liam Hogan (Haymarket, Va.), who played for the Yellow Jackets last year.
The team is coming off a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday night.
R-MC is in the midst of its best season since 2005, when it finished 12-4-2 and 4-3-2 in the ODAC. Like the 2005 team, this year's group has recorded nine shutouts, two less than the record of 11 in a regular season, set by the 1993 squad.
The senior night festivities get underway at Day Field at 7:00 PM on Tuesday night as the Yellow Jackets take on Shenandoah. The senior class will be honored following the game in a ceremony that will take place on the field. Family, friends and fans will be welcome on the turf at this time and all members of the R-MC and Ashland community are encouraged to come to both the game and the ceremony.
