Roanoke Tops Randolph-Macon 100-82 in ODAC Women's Hoops Shootout
ASHSLAND, VA – Roanoke made 14 three-pointers and featured six players in double figures as the Maroons topped Randolph-Macon 100-82 Saturday afternoon in Ashland.
R-MC (5-16 / 4-8 ODAC) was led by 23 points from Katie Anderson and 21 points from Sarah Parsons. Lindsey Sharman came off the bench to score 16 points, while Hannah Livermon and Kellie Cortina had 11 points and 10 points, respectively for the Jackets.
Paxton Gwin matched Anderson's 23 points for the Maroons, while Tatum McKee (16 points), Kelsey Smith (15 points), Laurel Hankins (13 points), Rachel Dellehunt (11 points) and Meghan Gadell (11 points) also scored in double figures.
Roanoke (9-12 / 5-7 ODAC) was able to hold R-MC scoreless for the first six and a half minutes, helping the Maroons jump out to a 14-1 advantage.
Following a three-pointer by Paxton Gwin to make it 17-1, R-MC stormed back, scoring the next 16 of the next 18 points with 10 of them coming from Sharman.
A Cortina jumper pulled R-MC within two at 19-17 with 10:48 to play, before Roanoke went on an 11-3 run to take a 30-20 advantage with 8:22 to go.
Randolph-Macon cut its deficit to six on a Parsons jumper, but RC would string together a 10-2 run to go up 40-26 and would take a 48-39 edge into the locker room.
The Yellow Jackets came out and rallied in the second-half and cut the RC lead to just two when Parsons drained a three-pointer with 13:15 to make it 61-59.
Roanoke responded with a 15-4, capped by a four point play Kelsey Smith to push its lead to 76-63 with 9:22 to play.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Tuesday evening when the Yellow Jackets travel to Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
