ODAC Leading EMU Outlasts the Yellow Jackets 81-70 on Tuesday Night
Ashland, VA – Eastern Mennonite took advantage of three players in double-figures as the Royals defeated the Yellow Jackets, 81-70, in ODAC action on Tuesday night.
Katie Anderson led the R-MC offense, posting her fourth double-double of the season, with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Parsons joined Anderson in double-figures with 15 points. Lindsey Sharman (9) and Hannah Livermon (8) were just shy of double-digits, while Kellie Cortina, Caroline Young and Lauren Vugteveen each chipped in with six. Vugteveen also pulled in eight rebounds on the night.
EMU (16-5 /12-1 ODAC) jumped out to a 14-8 lead before a Khajae Hester layup tied the game at 18-18 with 7:46 left. The Royals responded with a 16-11 run during the final minutes to take a 34-29 advantage into the intermission.
EMU opened up the second half with a 12-5 run in the first four minutes of play to take a 12 point lead at 46-34.
R-MC (5-17 / 4-9 ODAC) began to chip away at the Royal's lead and pulled within seven after a Livermon three-pointer, but that is as close as the Yellow Jackets would get as EMU scored six points in the last two minutes to seal the game.
Shakeerah Sykes led EMU with 23 points and nine rebounds. Steph Rheinheimer added 19 points, including five three-pointers, while Keyla Baltimore chipped in the 12 points for the Royals. Bianca Ygarza put together a solid game of nine points, five assists and a game-high 12 rebounds
