EMORY, Va. – Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) led R-MC with 20 points as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team fell to Emory & Henry 79-61 in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.
The Wasps (10-4, 4-2 ODAC) opened the first quarter on a 9-0 run. Livermon nailed a three-pointer for the Yellow Jackets (7-7, 3-3 ODAC) with 6:18 remaining. Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) made a layup to begin a 7-2 spurt for R-MC to pull within five points at 15-10 with 2:38 to play in the quarter. The Wasps held a 19-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
The R-MC deficit climbed to ten points at 26-16 with 7:18 to play until halftime. Anderson cut the deficit with a three-point play with 6:48 remaining. The Wasps added two points from the free throw line before junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) drained a three-pointer to put the Yellow Jackets within six points at 28-22. R-MC would again come within five points of the Wasps at 30-25 with 2:57 to play. The Wasps scored 10 of the last 14 points to own a 40-29 lead at halftime.
The Wasps held their largest lead of the game at 54-32 with 3:21 remaining in the third quarter. The Yellow Jackets scored 12 of the final 16 points of the quarter, holding the Wasps without a basket for the final two minutes. Livermon scored 10 of the 12 points for R-MC. Emory & Henry led 58-44 at the end of the third quarter.
The Wasps maintained a 66-48 advantage with 6:24 remaining. Intermill scored a three-pointer and was fouled on a made layup to convert it into a three-point play to cut R-MC's deficit to 71-56 with 3:51 remaining. Freshman Jayla Wade (Newport News, Va. / Heritage) tallied a three-pointer with 0:20 left in the quarter to give the Wasps a 79-61 ODAC win.
Anderson tallied 12 points and seven rebounds. Senior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va. / Amelia Academy) also tallied seven rebounds.
Freshman Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa. / Central York) came off the bench and recorded six points, two steals and an assist in 26 minutes for the Yellow Jackets.
Hester paced R-MC with four assists.
Randolph-Macon stays on the road for an ODAC contest against Bridgewater on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.
