Anderson Notches 19th Double-Double as GC Tops R-MC in ODAC Quarterfinals

SALEM, Va.— Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) notched her 19th double-double with 30 points and 11 rebounds as No. 7 Randolph-Macon women's basketball fell 86-67 to No. 2 Guilford in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament.

Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) added 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets (14-13) held an early 7-2 lead in the first quarter before the Quakers (20-4) cut R-MC's lead to one-point at 7-6. A three-point play from Anderson extended the Yellow Jackets' lead back to four points before Guilford used a 5-0 run to hold its first lead at 11-10 with 3:37 remaining. Anderson scored two baskets to hold a 14-13 advantage with under a minute remaining. The Quakers would add another basket before a last second three-pointer from Livermon gave the Yellow Jackets a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Guilford opened the second quarter on an 8-2 spurt to hold a 23-19 lead. The Yellow Jackets used a 4-0 run to knot the score at 23-23 with 7:12 to play until halftime. R-MC tied the score again at 25-all before the Quakers used a 5-0 run to hold a 30-25 advantage. Livermon nailed her third trey of the game to start a 6-2 spurt for the Yellow Jackets to pull within one-point at 32-31. Guilford ended the quarter on a 6-2 run to hold a 38-33 lead at the break.

Anderson led all scorers with 19 points at halftime. Livermon poured in 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Quakers started the third quarter with two straight layups to grab a 42-33 lead and extended their advantage to 15-points, 52-37, with 6:02 to play. Sophomore Teal Reynolds (Sterling, Va. / Potomac Falls) added a layup followed by a jump shot from Livermon to face a 54-41 deficit. Anderson scored seven of R-MC's final 11 points of the quarter. Freshman Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa. / Central York) scored a last-second bucket off a pass from freshman Lexi Mallory (Charlottesville, Va. / Miller School) to cut Guilford's lead to 65-52.

Guilford maintained an 82-58 lead with 3:19 remaining in the fourth quarter before the Yellow Jackets used a 4-0 spurt to cut their deficit to 20 points at 82-62. Freshman Deja Dennis (Owings Mills, Md. / Western Tech) and Jayla Wade (Newport News, Va. / Heritage) scored in the final minutes as Guilford claimed the 86-67 victory.  

Each of the four seniors concludes their R-MC career on the all-time leaderboard. Anderson wraps up her career with 1,727 points, third in program history, and is the Yellow Jackets' all-time rebound leader with 1,060 boards. Livermon is R-MC's all-time leader with 266 three-pointers made and tallied 1,383 in her four years with the Yellow Jackets. Senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) recorded two assists tonight and moved into second place all-time with 414 assists. Senior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va. / Amelia Academy) registered 93 blocks in her career, good for sixth in R-MC history.

Randolph-Macon concludes the 2015-16 campaign at 14-13 overall and 8-8 in conference play.
