AHSLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team bounced back with a 75-56 win over Shenandoah on Tuesday night. Junior Marisha Berry (Powhatan, Va./ Powhatan) led all scorers in the game with 17 points, she also added six steals, four assists and three rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets (9-6, 4-3 ODAC) snap a two game losing streak with the win over the Hornets (4-12, 1-6 ODAC).
The Hornets came out hot in the first quarter, outscoring R-MC 12-6. The Yellow Jackets trailed 21-16 with five minutes remaining in the first half. R-MC would go on an 11-6 run to end the period with the score tied at 27.
Berry led the Yellow Jackets with seven points at the half. Junior Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, Md./ Parkdale) had six points in the first.
The Yellow Jackets had an explosive third quarter, scoring 26 points. Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) made the first two buckets of the second half for R-MC. She finished with her 12th double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Williams added six assists, four rebounds and a block.
R-MC continued the momentum into the fourth quarter and outscored the opponents 22-13. R-MC scored 48 points in the second half to take the win.
R-MC outrebounded SU 48-24, with 24 of those offensive rebounds. The Yellow Jackets had 20 assists on 30 made buckets, with six from Berry, while Williams recorded four and Conteh and junior Teal Reynolds (Sterling, Va./ Potomac Falls) both had three.
Junior Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./ Patrick Henry) had another double figure scoring night with 13 points, shooting 6-12 from the floor. R-MC also forced 25 turnovers, scoring 28 points off of them. Berry led the team in steals with six.
The Yellow Jackets will be back on the court on Saturday, January 21 when the team travels to Lynchburg for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
