ASHLAND, Va. - Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./Halifax Academy) recorded her 15th double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds, while freshman Michal Ross (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) scored 15 and junior Marisha Berry (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) chipped in 13 as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team routed Randolph 80-42 Saturday afternoon in ODAC action in Crenshaw Gymnasium.
Williams went 8 for 10 from the floor for the Yellow Jackets (10-8, 5-5 ODAC). Berry was 6 for 7 on field goals and 3 for 4 on three-pointers, while Ross went 5 for 8 from the floor and 5 for 6 from the free throw line.
Williams had a layup with 5:25 left in the first quarter to cap a 14-2 start for the Yellow Jackets. Ross had a pair of layups to give R-MC an 18-4 advantage with three minutes remaining in the period. Williams made a layup with 30 seconds left as the Yellow Jackets took a 26-8 lead after one quarter. Williams had six points and four rebounds in the first period.
The Wildcats (9-10, 4-6 ODAC) scored the first five points of the second quarter make it 26-13 two minutes into the period. Williams had a pair of buckets in a 7-1 spurt as the lead grew to 19 at 33-14 with 3:05 left. Sophomore Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa./Central York) nailed a three-pointer with 55 seconds remaining to push the advantage to 22 at 40-18 and the Yellow Jackets would take a 42-20 lead to the locker room at halftime. Williams had 10 points and seven boards in the first half.
Williams had four points to spark an 11-3 start to the third quarter as R-MC went ahead 53-23 with 5:45 left in the period. A jumper by Ross extended the lead to 38 at 64-26 with 1:25 remaining before the Yellow Jackets took a 66-30 advantage after three quarters.
A free throw by Ross with 5:23 left in the fourth quarter gave R-MC its largest lead at 76-32. The Yellow Jackets would eventually post the 80-42 victory.
Ross also had nine rebounds, five assists and four blocks for the victors. Senior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) paced the Yellow Jackets with eight assists.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at Washington & Lee.
