NORFOLK, Va. – Junior Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./ Patrick Henry) scored twenty points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the 66-51 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday night. The R-MC women's basketball team shot 46 percent from the floor in the convincing victory.
R-MC outscored Va. Wesleyan in the first three quarters of the game. The Yellow Jackets took the lead at 12-11 in the second quarter and never lost their lead. R-MC trailed 11-10 with 9:32 in the second period, before going on a 11-0 run in the next five minutes to take a commanding 21-11 advantage.
The Yellow Jackets took a 33-21 advantage into halftime and would continue where they left off in the third period. R-MC outscored Va. Wesleyan 12-4 in the first five minutes of the third period.
The Yellow Jackets are now 11-10 and 6-7 in the ODAC, while the Marlins fall to 12-10 and 7-6 in the conference.
Lee went 6-11 from the field and 8-13 from the free throw stripe for a game high 20 points. She added 15 rebounds, three blocks and two assists on the night.
The Randolph-Macon bench contributed with 24 points compared to Wesleyan's eight. Junior Teal Reynolds (Sterling, Va./ Potomac Falls) scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds. Also contributing was the freshman duo of Michal Ross (Glen Allen, Va./ Glen Allen) and Ashley Weaver (Mechanicsville, Va./ Atlee) who both scored six points.
R-MC tallied 17 assists on the night, junior Marisha Berry (Powhatan, Va./ Powhatan) led the team with five, while Ross dished out four.
Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) scored 13 points going 6 of 8 from the floor and pulled down eight rebounds in the game.
R-MC will return to action on Saturday for a home game against Lynchburg at 2 p.m.
