R-MC Knocks Off Sweet Briar 16-14 in ODAC Women's Lacrosse Action

ASHLAND, VA – Emily Lynch scored four goals as the Randolph-Macon Women's Lacrosse team picked up a 16-14 victory over Sweet Briar in ODAC action on Friday afternoon. 

R-MC (2-0/1-0 ODAC) also got two goals from Kim Wright, who grabbed six draw controls in the victory.  Katie Russo, Shannon Jamieson, Rachel Johnsen and Jackie Martin each scored a pair of goals for the Yellow Jackets.  Johnsen also had a game-high 14 draw controls.

Nicole Woodworth made five saves in the cage for R-MC, while fellow goalie Morgan Tignor stopped four.

Sweet Briar (2-1/0-1 ODAC) was led by Charlotte Davis who notched four goals, while Sam Schwartz recorded a hat-trick and also had seven draw controls. Kelsey Barta and Taylor Klos each had two goals in the loss. 

Sweet Briar lit up the board first with an unassisted goal by Barta just over a minute into play. Davis followed suit and pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 6:48 mark.

R-MC would rally, scoring the next four goals to take a 4-2 lead with a little over 20 minutes remaining.

The Yellow Jackets maintained a lead after scoring five straight goals in the final ten minutes to take an 11-7 lead into halftime.

Jamieson and Russo helped R-MC stretch its lead to 13-7 after scoring in the first two minutes of the second stanza.

After a Klos tally for Sweet Briar tied the game at 14-14 at the 5:47 mark, Randolph-Macon went on a 2-0 run with Martin and Lynch each tallying a goal to help push the Yellow Jackets lead to 16-14 and secure the win. 

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on March 5th when it hosts Greensboro at 4:00 p.m.
