ST. MARY'S, Md. – Freshmen Casey Kent and Abby Davis (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) both tallied goals as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team fought to a 2-2 tie in double overtime at St. Mary's in the season opener for both teams.
Kent took advantage of a mishandled save by the keeper and scored in the 30th minute to give the Yellow Jackets the lead. The Seahawks leveled the score four minutes later as the teams were even at 1-1 at intermission.
Davis connected on a free kick in the 76th minute as R-MC took a 2-1 lead. SMC recorded the equalizer with one second left in regulation to force overtime. Each team had one shot in each overtime period as the match finished deadlocked.
The Seahawks held a slim 13-12 edge in shots and 7-6 in shots on goal. Kent and freshman McKenna Maier (Henrico, Va./Deep Run) paced the Yellow Jackets with three total shots and two shots on goal.
Sophomore Christina Newman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) recorded five saves for R-MC.
Randolph-Macon is scheduled to have its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. against Dickinson.
