R-MC Splits a Pair of Matches at Emory Invitational; Mallory Carter Named to All-Tournament Team

ATLANTA – The Randolph-Macon Volleyball squad ran its record to 10-2 on the season after splitting a pair of matches on the final day of the Emory University Invitational in Atlanta.  R-MC topped Trevecca to start the day, before No. 12 Elmhurst rallied to top the Jackets 3-2 in the day's final match.

In the 25-9, 25-19, 25-22 victory over Trevecca, R-MC got 17 kills from all-tournament selection Mallory Carter.   In six matches this week, Carter racked up 88 kills.  The senior now has 1,181 for her career and stands just six shy of moving past Katie King (1997-2000) for second-place all-time in R-MC history.  Maggie McDearmon (2003-06) holds the school record with 1,243 kills.

Courtney Lowers added nine kills, with Erin Hagelberger and Tori Puryear each chipping in with six in the victory.

Bailey Troia led the offense with 24 assists and Riley Martin dished out 17 helpers as well.

Defensively, libero Marli Dabareiner had 19 digs, Hagelberger added 13 stops and Carter finished with eight. 

Against Elmhurst, R-MC jumped out to a 2-0 lead wining the first two games 25-14 and 25-23.  Elmhurst then rallied, winning the next three games 16 - 25, 13 - 25, 12 – 15 to take the match.

Carter eclipsed her career-high for the second straight day with 25 kills.  Lowers added 10 kills and Puryear had seven.  Troia had 27 assists, while Martin added 22. 

Dabareiner had 20 digs in the loss, while Carter and Hagelberger each had 10.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts archrival Washington and Lee at 7:00 p.m.
