EMORY, Va. – The Randolph-Macon baseball team swept Emory & Henry this afternoon, posting a total of 34 runs in the two game conference series.
In Game 1 The Yellow Jackets (18-12, 12-5) recorded 15 hits, including an eight run, six hit rally in the sixth. R-MC took the early lead and continued to chip away; posting runs in six of the nine innings. Tim Benjamin (Glenelg, MD / Glenelg) led the Jackets at the plate with seven RBI, two runs, and two homeruns. Nick Maiolo (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) and Blake Saathoff (Catonsville, MD / Archbishop Spalding) also recorded homers. Daniel Byrd (Chesterfield, VA / Cosby) (5-2) took home his fifth win of the season, striking out three Wasps through five, while James Walsh (Mechanicsville, Atlee) notched his first save.
E&H captured the lead in Game 2, outscoring R-MC 9-5 through five innings. The Jackets would follow-up by going on a four inning, 13 run rally to hold off the Wasps, and pick up their second win of the day, 18-11. Maiolo belted his second homerun of the series, alongside Mitch Keeler (Mechanicsville, VA / Atlee) and Christian Sanderson (Lynchburg, VA / Jefferson Forest). Jake Bram (Pasadena, MD / Chesapeake) (3-1) was credited with the victory.
The Randolph-Macon baseball team returns to action April 15, as they travel to Methodist (NC) for a 4:00 PM non-conference matchup.
