ASHLAND, Va. - The Randolph-Macon baseball team earned a national ranking of No. 18 in the Perfect Game Preseason Poll.

In addition, Perfect Game had senior pitcher and outfielder Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) as the ninth-ranked player on its list of Top 25 Prospects in Division III.

The Yellow Jackets previously received votes in the Preseason Top 25.

R-MC posted an overall record of 26-15 a season ago and went 13-7 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets were the No. 3 seed in the ODAC Tournament. R-MC was in the national polls for the majority of the season, ranked as high as No. 6.

The Yellow Jackets were one of three ODAC teams in the Perfect Game Preseason Poll. Shenandoah, the 2017 regular season champion, was ranked sixth. The Hornets were eighth in the final 2017 poll. Roanoke, the reigning ODAC Tournament champion, was ranked No. 14. The Maroons reached the Division III College World Series this past season and were fifth in the final poll.

Besides two-game conference series with Shenandoah and Roanoke, R-MC has two other opponents in the poll. Alvernia is ranked No. 16 and Christopher Newport is No. 24. The Yellow Jackets will play a home doubleheader against the Golden Wolves and will have a home-and-home series with the Captains.

Now in his 14th season as head coach at his alma mater, Ray Hedrick and the Yellow Jackets are scheduled to open the season on Feb. 17-18 with a three-game home series against RPI, with a single game on Saturday and a doubleheader on Sunday.
