R-MC up to No. 17 in D3baseball Poll, Tuzzolo on Team of the Week

ASHLAND, Va. - The Randolph-Macon baseball team has moved up three spots to No. 17 in the latest D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25.

In addition, senior first baseball Joseph Tuzzolo (Newport News, Va./Menchville) was named to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week.

The Yellow Jackets swept an ODAC doubleheader at Emory & Henry this past Saturday to raise their record to 8-2.

Several R-MC opponents are in this week's poll, including No. 8 Methodist, No. 9 Roanoke, No. 11 Rowan, No. 13 Shenandoah, No. 16 Christopher Newport and No. 19 Catholic.

Tuzzolo accounted for 14 runs in a doubleheader sweep at Emory & Henry.

In the opener, Tuzzolo went 3 for 4 with a double, three runs and two RBI in a 19-6 victory over the Wasps. He singled and scored in a four-run second as the Yellow Jackets took the lead for good. Tuzzolo added a two-run base hit in a nine-run fourth as the advantage grew to 14-1. He doubled and scored in a three-run sixth as the lead ballooned to 17-1.

In the second game, Tuzzolo was 3 for 4 with a pair of homers, four runs and seven RBI as R-MC posted a 22-5 win in seven innings. He had a grand slam to highlight a 13-run second. Tuzzolo added an RBI single in the third and a two-run homer in the sixth.

Tuzzolo leads the ODAC with six home runs and a slugging percentage of 1.029. He is tied for second with 19 RBI and fifth in batting average at .429.

Randolph-Macon hosts Ferrum on Wednesday, March 14 at 3:30 p.m. and travels to NC Wesleyan for a 3 p.m. contest on Thursday, March 15.
