Big Fourth Quarter Sends R-MC Football to a 35-14 Road Win at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, MD – The Randolph-Macon College Football team scored 21 unanswered fourth quarter points to break a tied score and send the Yellow Jackets to a 35-14 victory at Frostburg State Saturday afternoon.

R-MC is now 4-0 for the second straight year, the fourth time since 1985 and the eighth time since 1967.  FSU drops to 2-2 on the season.

With the score tied at 14-14, R-MC took over with 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter and would hold on to the ball for the next 5:09, piecing together a 12 play, 74 yard drive that was capped when Zac Naccarato found Luke Sellers on a nine-yard touchdown pass with 10:28 to go in the game.

On FSU's ensuing possession, Jackets' linebacker Jeremy Bowry picked off Bobcat Josh Volpe and returned the ball 40 yards to pay dirt to put R-MC 28-14 with just under 10 minutes to go.

Frostburg got the ball back and after completing its first pass of the drive, threw three incompletions, giving to ball back Jackets on its 37 yard line after a punt.

R-MC put the game away, running nine plays and taking 4:32 off the clock on the drive.  Thaddeus Scruggs rushed the ball for 37 yards on the drive including a 12 yard scamper that pushed the Jackets lead to 35-14 with just over four minutes to go in the game.

The Yellow Jackets got an efficient 12-of-15 passing day from Naccarato, including two touchdown throws.   Drake Sanders finished the game with 100 yards and a score on the day, while Scruggs had 44 yards and a score.  Sellers led the receiving corps with 93 yards on three grabs, including two scores while Christian Cook had four catches for 41 yards.

The Jackets defense was led by David Fetter who had nine tackles.  Brandon Harrison made eight stops as well. Bowry finished the game with seven tackles, a fumble recovery and the interception return.

R-MC had 338 yards of offense on the day, with 152 of that coming via the ground game on 52 attempts.  The Jackets held possession of the ball for 33:24, including 10:05 in the fourth and decisive quarter.

Bobcat senior quarterback Josh Volpe led the offense with 206 yards passing and a touchdown to junior wideout Anthoney Young that gave the hosts an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Freshman tailback JD Hook came up nine yards short of his second-straight 100-yard game. He finished with 91 yards on 22 carries. He also caught three passes for 55 yards.

Randolph-Macon begins ODAC play next weekend in Ashland when it hosts Emory & Henry at 1:00 p.m.
