GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Yellow Jackets rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns as the Randolph-Macon football team dropped a 41-21 ODAC decision at Guilford Saturday afternoon at Appenzeller Field.
Three different players scored for the Yellow Jackets (1-6, 0-4 ODAC).
The Quakers (6-1, 3-1 ODAC) hit a 76-yard TD pass on the game's first play from scrimmage to take an early lead.
The second drive for the Yellow Jackets started on their own 42. R-MC faced fourth-and-one on the GC 49 when freshman Yonis Blanco (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) rumbled 41 yards to give the visitors first-and-goal on the eight. Blanco scored from one yard out on third down to knot the score at 7-7 with 6:01 remaining in the first quarter. GC added a TD later in the first and scored two in the second quarter to lead 28-7 at halftime.
GC scored a TD early in the third quarter and the extra point was blocked as the home team took a 34-7 advantage.
Early in the fourth period, R-MC put together a 75-yard scoring drive as junior Dom Kaopua (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) went in from two yards out to make it 34-14 with 7:29 remaining.
Blanco recovered the ensuing kickoff for the Yellow Jackets on the GC 11 and freshman Eric Hoy (Clayton, N.C./Clayton) found the end zone from three yards out as R-MC narrowed the deficit to 34-21 with 6:30 left.
Guilford threw for a final TD with 1:21 remaining to make the final 41-21.
Kaopua rushed for 72 yards on 17 carries to lead the Yellow Jackets. Blanco had 65 yards on the ground on five rushes. Hoy finished with 20 carries for 56 yards. R-MC held a 163-72 advantage in rushing yards. The Yellow Jackets had a 40:00-20:00 advantage in time of possession.
In his first collegiate start, freshman quarterback Joe McBride (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) completed 16 of 26 passes for 135 yards. He became the fourth player to start at quarterback for the Yellow Jackets this season. R-MC's top receiver was freshman Christian Redman (North Chesterfield, Va./James River) with six catches for 57 yards.
Junior Cole Burdette (Frederick, Md./Urbana) led the R-MC defense with five tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 31 for a 1 p.m. home ODAC contest against Shenandoah.
