R-MC Football Posts 500 Yards of Total Offense in Blanking Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Randolph-Macon football team amassed 500 yards of total offense as it opened the season with a 51-0 victory at Dickinson Saturday afternoon at Biddle Field.

It was the first shutout for the Yellow Jackets since a 19-0 home victory over Emory & Henry on Oct. 17, 2009. It was the first shutout on the road for R-MC since a 27-0 triumph at Guilford on Oct. 30, 1999.

R-MC earned its first opening-game victory since a 43-7 win at home over Methodist to kick off the 2011 campaign. It was the first opening-game win on the road since a 54-14 thumping at Methodist in 2010.

The Yellow Jackets put up 51 points for the first time since doing it twice in 2011, 51-34 at Catholic on Oct. 7 and 51-36 at Bridgewater on Nov. 5.

R-MC scored in each quarter. After a three-and-out for the Red Devils to start the game, sophomore Yonis Blanco (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) pulled in an 11-yard TD pass from sophomore Joseph Vairo (Coral Springs, Fla./Westminster Academy) to give the visitors a 7-0 lead with 9:40 left in the initial quarter. Senior Seth Yurgel (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) hit a 26-yard field goal as the Yellow Jackets led 10-0 after one period.

Sophomore Tre Frederick (Angier, N.C./West Johnston) broke a 95-yard TD run and Blanco ran in from one-yard out in the second quarter as R-MC led 23-0 at intermission.

The Yellow Jackets put the game away in the third quarter. Sophomore tight end Sean McDonald (Boyce, Va./Clarke County) snared a seven-yard scoring pass from Vairo to make it 30-0. Sophomore cornerback JJ Hill (Roanoke, Va./William Fleming) had a 90-yard interception return and sophomore Eric Hoy (Clayton, N.C./Clayton) scored on a 67-yard run as R-MC pushed the lead to 44-0.

Freshman De'Angelo Barr (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) went in from one yard out in the fourth period to make the final 51-0.

The Yellow Jackets ran the ball 51 times for 372 yards. Frederick paced the rushing attack with 177 yards on 19 carries.

Sophomore Christian Redman (North Chesterfield, Va./James River) topped the receiving corps with seven catches for 52 yards.

Senior safety Conner Lane (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) led the defense with eight stops, including two tackles for loss. Senior defensive end Michael Farry (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) and freshman linebacker Billy Mullen (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove) both has seven tackles for the Yellow Jackets.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 10, for a 6 p.m. home contest against Averett at Day Field.
