Hausler, Pinkston Honored by Touchdown Club of Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. - Senior offensive lineman Jay Hausler (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) and senior defensive lineman Jake Pinkston (Alexandria, Va./Robinson) have earned state awards from the Touchdown Club of Richmond.

For the NCAA Division II, III/NAIA/USCAA level, Hausler was named Offensive Lineman of the Year in the state of Virginia, while Pinkston was tabbed Defensive Lineman of the Year. R-MC was the only program to have multiple winners.

The pair will be recognized at the annual Dudley & Lanier Awards Banquet on Sunday, December 10, at the Hilton Richmond Hotel. The banquet begins at 5:30 p.m. following a 4:30 p.m. social. Tickets are $45 and may be purchased by calling Ron Axselle at 804-310-0222 or by email at [email protected]

Hausler, an All-ODAC First Team selection, blocked for an offense that was second in the ODAC and 24th in the nation in rushing at 239.7 yards per game during the regular season. R-MC was second in the league and 11th in the country in time of possession at 34:10. The Yellow Jackets were first in the conference and fifth in the nation in third down conversion percentage at .508. R-MC did not have a punt or kick blocked this season. Hausler was All-ODAC Third Team a season ago.

Pinkston, another All-ODAC First Team performer, was second on the team with 57 tackles, including 24 solo stops. He had 5.5 tackles for loss, including 2.5 quarterback sacks. He had one pass breakup and forced one fumble. Pinkston had a season-best 17 tackles against Washington and Lee as well as 10 tackles against Dickinson. Pinkston was All-ODAC Second Team in 2016.

Under head coach Pedro Arruza, Randolph-Macon posted a 7-3 overall mark in 2017. The Yellow Jackets were 4-2 in ODAC play, good for second place in the conference standings. R-MC concluded the season with a 56-28 victory over rival Hampden-Sydney. The Yellow Jackets have topped the Tigers four straight times and have won six of the past seven meetings.
