Castle Named to Preseason All-America First Team

MINNEAPOLIS - Randolph-Macon junior offensive lineman Greg Castle (Clayton, N.C./North Johnston) has been selected to the 2017 Preseason All-America First Team.

Castle was the only player from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) or from the state of Virginia to make either first or second team.

A season ago, Castle was named All-South Region Third Team by He was also All-ODAC First Team and VaSID All-State First Team. Castle helped open holes for ODAC Offensive Player of the Year Tre Frederick. R-MC was second in the league in rushing with 215.6 yards per game. The Yellow Jackets were third in sacks against with 1.73 per contest.

In 2016, R-MC won its 10th ODAC title, the second-highest total in league history. The Yellow Jackets posted a 9-2 mark, matching the program record for victories in a season. R-MC went 6-1 in ODAC play, setting a school record for ODAC wins in a season. The Yellow Jackets earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Under 14th-year head coach Pedro Arruza, Randolph-Macon begins the 2017 campaign at home on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. against Dickinson College at Day Field. The Yellow Jackets won 51-0 at DC a season ago to kick off the 2016 slate.
