ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Katie Thompson (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) saved four shots with another save coming at the hands of the team, but four other ones made it into the cage as the Centre Colonels beat Randolph-Macon 4-0 in a Saturday afternoon non-conference matchup. R-MC fell to 5-8 with the loss.
R-MC never could find the right ticket for offense, especially in the first half where the team only took four shots. The team doubled their output in the second half with eight shots, but still could not sneak any past the Centre keeper. Only four shots landed on goal for R-MC, two in each half.
Senior Victoria Cappadora (Manchester, Md. / Manchester Valley) and freshman Clare Magill (Moseley, Va. / Trinity Episcopal School) led the team with three shots each. One shot for each fell on goal as well. Freshman Maria Teresa Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va. / Trinity Episcopal School) tried two shots, with one on goal in the match, while freshman Ayanna Healy (Newport News, Va. / Woodside), Austyn Faries (Richmond, Va. / Monacan), Madison McCoy (Fredericksburg, Va. / Stafford) and Spencer Mahon (Fredericksburg, Va. / Courtland) each tried one shot.
Centre had the penalty corner advantage 12-8, especially in the second half where Centre had eight. The Colonels were able to convert two of those corners into goals, one in each half.
R-MC hits the road for four games in seven days beginning Monday at Susquehanna at 7PM. All of the games are on the road. R-MC returns home for its final game of the regular season against Roanoke on Saturday, October 28 at 6 PM at Day Field. That night is part of the homecoming celebration at Randolph-Macon and will also feature senior night festivities
