R-MC Uses Balanced Scoring in 77-55 Win Over Salisbury

ASHLAND, VA – Andre Simon led four Yellow Jackets in double-figures with 18 points as Randolph-Macon topped Salisbury, 77-55, Wednesday evening in Ashland.

Joining Simon in double-figures was Lamar Giggetts who had 17 points, while Joe Hassell had 13 points off the bench and Connor Sullivan chipped in 10 points.    

The Yellow Jackets out rebounded the Sea Gulls 41-28.  Dylan Cole and Hassell each had eight boards, Simon had seven and Giggetts had six in the win.   R-MC shot 53.6% (30-of-56) on the night and converted 14-of-22 free-throws. 

Elijah Gore scored a team-high 12 points for SU, knocking down four of the Sea Gulls nine three-pointers.  Trent Epps added 11 points for SU as well.  Salisbury shot 36.6% from the floor, making 21-of-53 field goals in the loss.

The game was tight in the first-half, with Salisbury holding a 24-17 lead with just over nine minutes to go.  Randolph-Macon rallied and finished the half on a 22-6 run, taking a 39-30 halftime advantage when Hassell put back a rebound off his own miss as time expired.

Randolph-Macon (4-5) was able to push its lead to 12 points when a Cole bucket made it 45-33 with 16:36 to play in the game. 

Salisbury (9-2) rallied with a 10-2 run; cutting it is deficit to four points at 47-43 following a Travon Vann basket with just over 12 minutes to play. 

R-MC answered with a game-sealing 18-3 run over the next seven minutes, extending its lead to 19 points when a Sullivan bucket made it 65-46. 

Randolph-Macon will break for the holidays before hosting the R-MC Coaches Classic sponsored by Kay Jewelers on December 29th and 30th.
