Tough Defense Propels R-MC to a 74-39 Victory Over the Generals

Ashland, VA -- Randolph-Macon held Washington and Lee to just 30.2% from the floor and forced 16 turnovers to secure a 74-39 ODAC win over the Generals Wednesday night in Ashland. 

This marks the first time the Yellow Jackets have held an opponent under 40 points since they defeated Bridgewater College 71-38 on February 11, 2009.

R-MC is now 10-8 overall and 5-4 in the ODAC, while W&L drops to 9-9 overall and 4-5 in the league. 

The Generals took an early 12-11 lead in the first four minutes of play, before Chris Hamilton drained a three-pointer to spark a 25-6 Yellow Jacket run to take a 36-18 edge into the intermission.

R-MC, which held W&L to 21 points in the second half on  8-of-25 (32.0%) of shooting, saw its lead reach as many as 35 down the stretch.

Connor Sullivan led the way for R-MC with a game-high 13 points, including three trifectas.  Hamilton, Andre Simon and Akeem Holmes each chipped in with nine points while Lamar Giggetts added eight. Marcus Badger had a solid game, posting eight points, five assists and two steals.

Simon (10), Dylan Cole (9), and Holmes (7) combined for 26 rebounds for R-MC, which held a 43-34 edge on the glass.  The Yellow Jackets made 46.3% of their shots on the night, converting 31-of-67 shots from the floor. 

Darren Douglas led the General offense with 11 points followed by J.D. Ey who finished with eight points and 10 rebounds. Washington and Lee finished the night shooting 30.2% on 16-of-53 shooting.

R-MC will be back in action Saturday January 26th when it hosts the Maroons of Roanoke College for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
