ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Chris Hamilton (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) led all scorers with 22 points as the No. 16 Randolph-Macon men's basketball team defeated Bridgewater 63-45 in ODAC action Wednesday evening at Crenshaw Gymnasium for its seventh straight win.
Hamilton went 6 for 12 on three-pointers and was 2 for 2 inside the arc for his 22 points. Sophomore Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) added nine points off the bench for the Yellow Jackets (10-2, 3-0 ODAC).
After Hamilton nailed a trey to start the scoring, the Eagles (7-5, 2-1 ODAC) scored 10 straight points to take a 10-3 advantage six minutes into the contest. The lead grew to nine at 16-7 before Hamilton capped a 10-0 run with a three-pointer to give R-MC a 17-16 edge. BC took a 25-21 lead with 2:30 left in the period before Hamilton again capped an 8-0 spurt with a trey as the Yellow Jackets took a 28-25 lead at intermission. Hamilton finished the first half with 14 points. R-MC was whistled for just one foul in the first 20 minutes and the Eagles did not shoot a free throw in the first half.
R-MC dominated the first 11 minutes of the second half, outscoring BC 23-6 to take a 51-31 lead. The Yellow Jackets maintained a double-figure advantage before posting the 63-45 win.
The Yellow Jackets dominated the boards 54-38 and recorded 20 offensive rebounds. Senior Joe Hassell (Portsmouth, Va./Indian River) grabbed 13 rebounds, including six offensive boards.
Senior Marcus Badger (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) had six assists to go with six points and four rebounds for the victors.
Kyle Welty paced the Eagles with 12 points.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10, with a 2 p.m. home ODAC contest against Guilford at Crenshaw Gymnasium.
