Turner, Taylor Lead R-MC Men's Basketball past E&H 75-72

ASHLAND, Va. – Freshman Korey Turner (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) had a season high 21 points, including 15 in the second half, as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team edged Emory & Henry 75-72 Saturday afternoon in ODAC action in Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Senior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) added 18 points for the Yellow Jackets (2-4, 1-0 ODAC).

R-MC trailed 43-40 at halftime. The Wasps (4-3, 1-1 ODAC) netted the first three baskets of the second half to lead 49-42 four minutes into the second half. Senior Jamie Wilson (West Point, Va./West Point) buried a three-pointer to cap a 13-6 run and knot the score at 55-55 with nine minutes left. After a pair of E&H free throws gave the visitors a 57-55 advantage, Turner nailed a trey to give the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the game at 58-57 with 7:40 remaining. It was a lead R-MC would not relinquish. A three-pointer by Turner gave the home team a 65-61 lead with 5:45 left. Sophomore Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) had a layup with just under three minutes remaining to extend the R-MC lead to six at 71-65. A jumper by Turner kept the Yellow Jackets' lead at six at 73-67 with two minutes remaining. A three-pointer and a layup by the Wasps made it a one-point game at 73-72 with 29 seconds left. Taylor made a layup with 21 seconds left to push the lead to three at 75-72. E&H missed a pair of three-pointers in the final 12 seconds as R-MC secured the victory.

R-MC had season highs with 75 points, 27 field goals and 10 three-pointers. E&H shot 57% in the first half, but just 33% in the second period. The R-MC defense held the Wasps to 29 second-half points.

Junior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) had eight points and three assists, while pacing the Yellow Jackets with six rebounds. Wilson had four assists to lead the victors.

The Wasps hit their first four three-pointers and jumped to a 14-2 lead four minutes into the contest. Taylor had 10 points in a 13-4 run as the Yellow Jackets pulled within three at 18-15 with 11:30 left in the first half. A pair of free throws by Wilson made it a one-point game at 29-28 with 5:30 remaining in the period. E&H led 31-30 before going on a 10-2 spurt to push the advantage to 41-32 with 2:40 left in the half. Turner capped an 8-2 run for R-MC with a three-point play as the Yellow Jackets trailed 43-40 at intermission. Taylor had 13 first-half points, while Noe contributed eight points and five rebounds.

Randolph-Macon hits the road on Tuesday, Dec. 6, for an ODAC contest at Eastern Mennonite before returning to Crenshaw Gymnasium on Saturday, Dec. 10, for a 2 p.m. encounter with Averett.
