HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Senior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) matched his season high with 19 points as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team fell 75-64 at Juniata in the championship game of the Doc Greene Tournament.
The Yellow Jackets (6-2) had their six-game win streak snapped.
The Eagles (8-0) won the game at the free throw line, going 22 of 27 from the line compared to 3 of 5 for the Yellow Jackets.
Noe and junior Grayson Midulla (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) were named to the All-Tournament team. Noe had seven field goals, hit three three-pointers and sank a pair of free throws. Midulla finished with 10 points, going 5 for 9 from the floor.
R-MC scored its first five buckets in the paint, with two each by Midulla and junior Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua), in building a quick 10-4 lead four minutes into the contest. JC would use a 9-3 run to knot the score at 13-13 with just under 11 minutes left in the first half. The Eagles took their first lead 17-15 with 8:30 remaining. A three-pointer by junior Luke Neeley (Orange, Va./Woodberry Forest) gave the Yellow Jackets an 18-17 edge before a 6-1 spurt by JC gave the home team a 23-19 advantage with 5:15 left. A three-point play by Noe and a jumper by junior Korey Turner (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) gave R-MC a 24-23 lead with 4:30 left. Four straight points by the Eagles gave them a 27-24 lead before layups by Adams and Midulla gave the Yellow Jackets a 28-27 edge with 43 seconds left. A pair of free throws for JC gave it a 29-28 lead at the break. Midulla and Adams both had six first-half points. R-MC had a 17-13 edge on the boards, with Adams pulling down five. The Eagles had eight made free throws compared to two for the Yellow Jackets.
JC scored the first four points of the second half to take its largest lead at 33-28 before a layup by Midulla stopped the spurt. R-MC trailed 38-33 before treys by Neeley, Noe and freshman Max Morrow (North Chesterfield, Va./Amelia Academy) highlighted an 11-2 run as the Yellow Jackets took a 44-40 lead with 11 minutes remaining. An 8-3 run allowed the Eagles to reclaim the lead at 48-47 with 8:55 left. A trey by Morrow put R-MC up 54-52 with 6:15 remaining. JC scored six straight to go ahead 58-54 with 5:05 left, a lead it would not relinquish. After Noe nailed a trey to make it 58-57, the Eagles closed the game on a 17-7 run to make the final 75-64. JC scored its final seven points from the free throw line.
R-MC held a 29-28 advantage on the glass. Adams had seven, including three offensive boards.
Turner topped the Yellow Jackets with six assists, while Noe dished out three.
Randolph-Macon breaks for final exams before returning to the court on Sunday, Dec. 17 for a 2 p.m. contest at Mary Washington.
