McDonagh Tied for Third, R-MC Fourth at Ted Keller Memorial

ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Matthew McDonagh (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) fired an even-par 70 to tie for third out of 90 golfers and help R-MC sit fourth out of 17 teams after the first round of the Ted Keller Memorial Tournament Monday at the Hanover Country Club.

McDonagh is two shots behind leaders David Rabil of Christopher Newport and Brad Lankler of Franklin & Marshall.

The Yellow Jackets, under head coach Ed Turnage, are just four shots behind leader Christopher Newport in the team standings.

Sophomore Peter Shaner (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and freshman Trey Razzetti (Glen Allen, Va./Benedictine) both tied for 19th at 75, followed by sophomore Kirby Struhar (Sterling, Va./Park View) at 77 and senior Connor Jones (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) at 82.

Freshman Dalton Taylor (Falls Church, Va./McLean) led the R-MC B team at 81, followed by junior Adam Tuttle (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield Secondary) at 82, freshman Christian Fagan (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) at 83, freshman Chase Childers (Issue, Md./La Plata) at 85 and sophomore Nick Stottlemyer (Port Tobacco, Md./McDonough) at 87. Senior Lucas Powell (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) shot 79 as an individual for the Yellow Jackets.

Round 2 will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 9 a.m.
