PETERSBURG, Va. – Senior Connor Jones (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) shot 75 each day to finish first in the individual standings as the Randolph-Macon men's golf team captured the VSU Fall Classic at Dogwood Trace.
Jones' score of 150 was the top among the Division II and Division III players and matched the Division I high of Norman Blanco of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Jones helped R-MC finish ahead of the other four Division II and III squads as well as the three Division 1 teams.
Sophomore Kirby Struhar (Sterling, Va./Park View) was one shot behind Jones at 151 (75-76) as was sophomore Matthew McDonagh (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) (77-74). Both were named to the all-tournament team.
Sophomore Peter Shaner (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) shot 71 for Round 2 after an 83 in Round 1 for a total of 154. His 71 was the lowest round for either day of the tournament.
Freshman Trey Razzetti (Glen Allen, Va./Benedictine) rounded out the R-MC A-team with a 157 (80-77).
For the R-MC B-team, sophomore Nick Stottlemyer (Port Tobacco, Md./McDonough) shot 157 (78-79), followed by freshman Chase Childers (Issue, Md./La Plata) at 160 (79-81), freshman Christian Fagan (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) at 168 (81-87) and freshman Dalton Taylor at 169 (91-78). Senior Lucas Powell (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) was forced to withdraw following a first-round 87.
Randolph-Macon, under head coach Ed Turnage, has concluded the fall portion of its schedule.
