Nelson, R-MC Men's Golf Finish Second at Glenn Heath Memorial

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Freshman Alex Nelson (Weems, Va./Lancaster) rose 11 spots to finish second out of 80 individuals, helping the Randolph-Macon men's golf team  place second out of 14 teams Tuesday after the second and final round of the Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial at the Williamsburg Club.

The Yellow Jackets cut four strokes from their Round 1 score, shooting 304 on Tuesday after 308 on Monday for a total of 612. R-MC finished ahead of seven other ODAC teams.

Nelson had the best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting three-under 69 after an opening-round 77 to give him a total of 146, three shots behind leader David Rabil of Christopher Newport.

Junior Kirby Struhar (Sterling, Va./Park View) (73-81) and sophomore Trey Razzetti (Glen Allen, Va./Benedictine) (76-78) finished tied for 12th at 154. followed by junior Matthew McDonagh (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) at 158 (82-76) and freshman Tom Schaffer at 165 (84-81).

Playing as individuals, sophomore Chase Childers (Issue, Md./La Plata) shot 161 (81-80) and senior Dalton Taylor (Falls Church, Va./McLean) fired a 167 (86-81).

Randolph-Macon will compete in the 2017 ODAC Championships April 23-25 at Wintergreen, Va.
