Childers Finishes Tied for 10th at Ted Keller Memorial

ASHLAND, Va. - Junior Chase Childers (Issue, Md./La Plata) played consistently over two rounds to finish in a tie for 10th out of 68 individuals for the Randolph-Macon men's golf team after the second and final round of the Ted Keller Invitational at the Hanover Country Club.

The Yellow Jackets moved up two places from eighth to sixth out of 12 clubs in the team standings. R-MC improved by 15 shots (318-303) to finish at 621. The was the most significant improvement among the top nine teams.

Childers shot 75 in the second round after an opening-round 76 for a score of 151. Sophomore Alex Nelson (Weems, Va./Lancaster) improved by seven shots for a total of 153 (80-73), followed by junior Christian Fagan (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) at 156 (76-80), senior Kirby Struhar (Sterling, Va./Park View) at 158 (81-77), senior Peter Shaner (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) at 159 (81-78), sophomore Tom Schaffer (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) at 161 (84-77) and freshman Grant Burchette (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) at 164 (77-87).

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Oct. 16-17, participating in the VSGA Intercollegiate at the Stonehenge Golf & Country Club in Richmond, Va.
