FARMVILLE, VA – Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse (4-6 / 0-2 ODAC) got three goals from Jason Andrews and Tim Rowe but Hampden-Sydney (6-2 / 2-0 ODAC) used a strong first half to pick up a 14-9 win Friday night. The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, March 30th when they host Roanoke for a 7:00 game.
The Tigers opened up the first quarter with three straight goals, all coming from different players to take a 3-0 edge heading into the second quarter.
Jess Hawthorne pushed the advantage to 4-0 with his second goal of the contest just eight seconds into the second frame.
The Yellow Jackets then rallied with two straight goals from Ryan Davidson and Tim Rowe to cut the lead in half at 4-2.
H-SC answered with three consecutive scores to push the score to 7-2. The two teams traded goals over the remaining minutes with R-MC getting goals from Davidson and Rowe to make the halftime tally 9-4.
Robert Fox assisted Jason Andrews on a score with 12:06 to play in the third, cutting the Hampden-Sydney edge to 9-5 but that would be as close as Randolph-Macon would come as the Tigers maintained their lead for a 14-9 win.
Andrews and Rowe paced the offense with three goals each. Andrews also added an assist while Davidson chipped in with two scores. Jordan Devito went all 60 minutes between the pipes and made 11 saves.
The Tigers took advantage of four goals from Ryan Martin and Hawthorne along with three goals from James Hughes. David Noftsinger made 7 saves in 55 minutes for H-SC.
Randolph-Macon held a 37-35 edge in shots and held a 32-30 advantage in groundballs.
