FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Freshman Schylur King (Owings, Md./Northern) scored a pair of first-quarter goals, but the Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-7 decision at Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles (2-0) scored the first two goals of the game and never trailed. King scored with 9:12 remaining in the first period to make it 2-1. After another UMW goal, King scored with 2:11 left in the quarter to make it 3-2. Freshman Kyle Keepers (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) recorded the first goal of the second period on an assist by King to knot the score at 3-3. The Eagles netted the final two scores of the first half and led 5-3 over the Yellow Jackets (1-1).
UMW tallied the first two goals of the third period and built a 7-3 advantage with 12 minutes to go. Freshmen Miles Muncie (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) and Alex Camilliere (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) scored the next two goals to make it 7-5. The Eagles added a pair to extend the lead to four at 9-5 before sophomore Ryan Davidson (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) netted the final goal of the quarter for R-MC as the visitors trailed 9-6.
The Eagles scored the first two goals of the final period to push the lead to 11-6 before junior Nick Benhoff (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) registered the final goal of the match to make it an 11-7 final.
Junior goalie Brian Davies (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) recorded seven saves.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 21 with a 1 p.m. home contest against Catholic on Day Field.
