ASHLAND, Va. – Freshman Alex Camilliere (Huntington, Md./Huntington) scored three times, but it was not enough as the Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team dropped a 7-6 decision to Guilford Saturday afternoon in ODAC action at Day Field.
Camilliere broke the scoreless tie with a goal with 4:36 remaining in the first period as the Yellow Jackets (4-8, 1-3 ODAC) took the early lead. The Quakers (8-2, 3-2 ODAC) tied it two minutes later and netted the first two goals of the second quarter to take a 3-1 advantage. Freshman Miles Muncie (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) scored with five minutes remaining in the half as R-MC trailed 3-2 at intermission.
After GC made it 4-2 with 4:43 remaining in the third, senior Nolan Clark (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) netted a goal on an assist by freshman Kyle Keepers (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) to again make it a one-goal game at 4-3. The Quakers would add a late score to lead 5-3 heading to the final period.
Camilliere scored early in the fourth on Keepers' second assist as the Yellow Jackets pulled with one at 5-4. GC answered quickly before Camilliere's third goal made it a 6-5 contest, assisted by junior Nick Benhoff (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney). Freshman Coleman Adams (Mechanicsville, Va./St. Christopher's) netted the tying goal on an assist by sophomore Ryan Davidson (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) with under four minutes remaining. Guilford tallied the eventual game-winner with 3:04 left.
R-MC dominated on ground balls, 36-17. Benhoff paced the Yellow Jackets with nine ground balls. He also won 11 of 15 faceoffs.
Junior Brian Davies (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) recorded 11 saves for the Yellow Jackets.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, April 8, with a 4 p.m. home ODAC contest against Bridgewater at Day Field.
