
LYNCHBURG, Va. - Senior Sam Mayer (Severna Park, Md./ Severna Park) led the Yellow Jackets to a 10-4 victory over Randolph with six assists and one goal on Saturday afternoon. R-MC held the WildCats goalless in the second half of the contest as senior goalie Brian Davies (Lynchburg, Va./ E.C. Glass) made 11 saves on 15 shots.
Leading the Yellow Jackets in goals was junior Kyle Keepers (Roswell, Ga./ Roswell), he scored six of the Yellow Jackets' 10 goals in the game.
R-MC improves to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Randolph falls to 2-5 and 0-2 in the ODAC.
Randolph took a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter. R-MC then scored three straight goals to take a 3-2 advantage, all of which were setup by Mayer. Randolph would outscore R-MC 2- 1 in the second quarter as the teams went into the half tied at 4.
Mayer and Keepers scored the only goals in the third period for R-MC. Keepers scored two more goals in the fourth quarter, along with freshman Colin Disesa (Ashland, Va./ Hanover), to secure the win.
The Yellow Jackets went 20 of 21 in clears and forced the WildCats into 15 turnovers. R-MC outshot Randolph 36-27.
Leading the game in ground balls was Davies with seven, while freshman Christian Purcell (Annapolis, Md./ Annapolis) has six. Defensively, Mayer, sophomore Lee Pratt (Winston-Salem, N.C./ Ronald Reagan), senior David Cryster (Mechanicsville, Va./ Hanover) and junior Kyle Geblein (Hagerstown, Md./ Smithsburg) all forced two caused turnovers each.
Mayer currently leads the ODAC in assists with 23 for the season.
R-MC will be back in action on Saturday, March 25 with a road contest against Hampden-Sydney at 1 p.m.
