DiSesa, Keepers, Muncie Lead R-MC Men's Lacrosse past Ferrum 14-5

ASHLAND, Va. - Freshman Colin DiSesa (Ashland, Va./Hanover) had two goals and four assists, while juniors Kyle Keepers (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) and Miles Muncie (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) both recorded four goals as the Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team handled Ferrum 14-5 Wednesday afternoon at Day Field.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 7-6, while the Panthers fell to 5-11.

R-MC scored just over two minutes into the game as Muncie finished on a pass from junior Coleman Adams (Mechanicsville, Va./St. Christopher's) to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. It was the 100th goal for R-MC on the season. Freshman Davis Hitt (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) scored on an assist by DiSesa with 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter as the Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 edge. Following a Ferrum goal, Keepers finished in front of the net on a sweet pass from senior Sam Mayer (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) as the advantage grew to 3-1 with 4:01 left in the period. Mayer fed Keepers again in front of the net with 19.3 second left as R-MC took a 4-1 lead after one.

Keepers netted his third straight goal on a pass by DiSesa just over a minute into the second quarter as the Yellow Jackets expanded their lead to 5-1. Senior Lee Pratt (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ronald Reagan) picked up an errant pass and scored from 15 yards out to give R-MC a 6-1 advantage. After the Panthers netted their second goal, Muncie answered with 4:29 left in the quarter and scored again 30 seconds later as the Yellow Jacket lead grew to 8-2 at intermission. R-MC held a 26-10 advantage in shots in the first half, including 19-7 for shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets won 10 of 12 face offs.

Keepers tallied his fourth goal eight seconds into the third quarter on a pass from DiSesa and DiSesa scored nine seconds later on an assist by freshman Joe Maranto (Joppa, Md./Fallston) as R-MC expanded its lead to 10-2. Ferrum scored the final two goals of the period as the Yellow Jackets led 10-4 after three.

DiSesa intercepted an errant pass and beat the keeper one-on-one five minutes into the final quarter as the Yellow Jackets took an 11-4 lead. Muncie scored an unassisted goal one minute later as R-MC's advantage grew to 12-4 with nine minutes remaining. Adams scored on a pass from junior Alex Camilliere (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) with six minutes left to make it 13-4. After the Panthers tallied their fifth goal with 2:11 left, sophomore Ty Anderson netted his first goal on an assist by freshman Christian Purcell (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) with four seconds left to make the final 14-5.

Keepers and Maranto both paced the Yellow Jackets with five ground balls, while Mayer and junior Andrew Venezia (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) both tallied four.

R-MC outshot Ferrum 40-25, including 30-16 on shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets won 17 of 22 face offs, with Maranto winning those 17.

Senior Brian Davies (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) recorded 10 saves, while sophomore Chris Cerrina (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) snagged one save.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, April 15, at home for a noon ODAC contest against nationally-ranked Roanoke for Senior Day.
