NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Sophomore Ryan Tiffey (Colombia, Md. / Wilde Lake) scored three goals against Christopher Newport, but the 20th-ranked Captains (3-0) had control of the game from the start as R-MC (0-3) fell 16-5 in non-conference action at the Captains' Turf Field Wednesday night.
Christopher Newport scored the first eight goals of the game, spanning the first 28 minutes and nearly two quarters. With 1:48 to go in the second, senior Alex Camilliere (Huntingtown, MD / Huntingtown) was able to secure the Yellow Jackets' first goal of the game. CNU added two more before the half and the teams went to the break with a 10-1 margin.
R-MC got its best offensive quarter of the night in the third as Tiffey scored his first goal about three minutes into the period. The goal was assisted by senior Coleman Adams (Mechanicsville, VA / St. Christopher's), his second of the season.
Though CNU answered the goal, senior Tyee Buttrey (Damascus, MD / Damascus) got in on the scoring with 8:05 to go in the third as he sent in R-MC's third goal of the night on an unassisted play. Tiffey added his second goal of the night to answer a pair of CNU goals over a four minute period through the middle of the third. It was the third goal of the quarter for R-MC. Tiffey got the assist from senior Kyle Keepers (Roswell, GA / Roswell), his first of the season.
Tiffey completed his hat trick just minutes into the fourth quarter as Camilliere sent him a pass he was able to convert into a goal on the board with 13:03 to go in the game. It marked Camilliere's first assist of the season, while Tiffey added his three goals on the night with one in the game against Mary Washington to make four for the season.
Junior Chris Cerrina (Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood) made eight saves in his outing in goal.
Randolph-Macon next travels to Goucher on Saturday for a 1:00 PM start time.
