ASHLAND, VA – The R-MC men's soccer team took advantage of two goals from junior Kevin Lukens and freshman Andrew Oakes en route to defeat Roanoke 2-1 in double overtime. The Yellow Jackets pick up its first win of the 2012 season to improve its overall record to 1-3-2.
R-MC's Lukens was the first to connect with the back of the net in the 44th minute to notch the only goal of the first half. Freshman Mitchell Surkamp assisted the Lukens goal.
The score would remain 1-0 in the second stanza until Roanoke's AJ Tierce scored an unassisted goal in the 68th minute to tie the match 1-1 and send it into over-time.
Neither team would post the winning goal the first over-time period played. It wasn't until the 114th minute, in double over-time, Oakes score the final go-ahead goal to secure the 2-1 victory for R-MC.
Goalkeeper Chris Lowe recorded the win playing all 120 minutes and recorded five saves on the night.
The Yellow Jackets return to the field against ODAC rival Hampden-Sydney on September 19th at 4:30 p.m.
